Cold Tubs? Hot Tubs? From wine barrels? Do you love wine? And everything made from wine barrels? Why yes, of course. Ever think of actually owning a wine barrel? Well, this is your chance. We have used wine barrels straight from the wineries just waiting for a good home. More importantly, maybe you need a reason to buy a wine barrel? These barrels are big enough for most people to climb inside. Now fill it with cold water and ice...cold tub. Cold water therapy is one of the fastest, easiest and most natural ways to reset your mind and body. Not your style? Then how about hot water…hot tub. Customers say they are very therapeutic.
UNIQUE: Puncheon barrels are unique in their size. They are big. Whereas normal wine barrel is 59-60 gallons, the puncheons we carry are around 105 to 132 gallons and more. They also weight twice as much as a 59 or 60 gallon barrel coming in at approximately 150-200 pounds. Too small? Too big? We also carry hogshead wine barrels. They come in at 65-85 gallons and weigh about 100-150 pounds. These barrels are big enough to be a hot tub or cold tub. As planters, they are also a good size for trees. (See planters).
RECYCLED: These rustic wine barrels still have the barrel rack marks and wine stains proudly showing their years of winery service. All this adds a special touch for those who are sensitive to ecology and recycling.
HAND CRAFTED: While we don't make the barrel, it takes time to prepare your barrel per the selected options. First, we make sure the barrel is tight and then we fill it with water until it becomes watertight. This could take 1 day to weeks. All cold and hot tubs come with a bung and a spigot near the bottom for draining the water. The hot tub also comes with an inlet and outlet for the hot water heater (hot water heater NOT included).
The head is taken off (so you can climb in) but we also offer to glue it together and add a couple of handles so you can use it as a lid to cover your tub when not in use. This helps to keep the debris and insects out of your tub. Some people don’t care for the raw barrel, so we also offer sanding and a Danish Oil finish.
So again, barrels may take from 1 day to weeks to become watertight again. Once watertightness is achieved, keeping water in them all year will keep them tight. So, please allow us up to 4 weeks after payment to turn your barrel into a watertight cold or hot tub.
OPTIONS: You can select if you want the barrel head prepared as a lid or cover. For a more refined look, we can sand and finish the barrel, even so, there will still be some remaining marks and stains. That’s the barrel’s story. If you desire this, add sanding and medium walnut oil to finish the barrel.
- Barrel sizes (59-60 Gallon, 70 Gallon, 300-Liter, 320-Liter, 400-Liter, 500-Liter)
- Sand and Oil Medium Walnut
- Barrel Head Lid with handles. 59-60 Gallon come with a rope handle, the larger barrels come with 2 metal handles.
If we are out-of-stock for a particular size, please call or email us with the size you need and we will look to bring it in special for you.
CUSTOMIZE: Call or email us if you want to personalize the barrel. Personalization is extra. Send us an email with your order number and let us know if the barrel will be a hot tub or a combination cold tub/hot tub. There is no extra charge to add the 2 hot tub holes (inlet and outlet).
Please note, our wine barrels are made from French or American oak. Each wine barrel will be unique in coloring, condition and size due to variations in production of wine barrels and wine. No two are alike. Even when we stain/oil them, no two wine barrels turn out identical. The barrel marks and wine stains make these barrels special. Whenever we work on these barrels, we can’t help thinking that every barrel has a story to tell!

I recently bought a wine barrel and turned it into a soaking tub, and let me tell you, it's been amazing! It fits perfectly into the space where my washer/dryer used to be, so it's a great space-saver. Now, I can soak in hot water up to my neck—it's so lovely! The rustic charm of the barrel adds a unique touch to my home. The wine smell is pretty strong at first, but it mostly goes away after a few weeks, leaving just a faint hint behind. If you're looking for a fun and relaxing addition to your home, I highly recommend converting a wine barrel into a soaking tub!
